For those who don't like this--just use it right August 11, 2005 205 out of 206 found this review helpful
If you put the box together right, the loose litter flows through the screen as you roll the box to the right; keep rolling the box and the clumps go on over the top of the screen into the open top of the collection box. Ingeniously simple! (For those who think the CLUMPS need to go through the screen: look at it again. It's probably just a matter of flipping the screen so that it goes from the edge of the collection box downward to the bottom, not upward. Leaving the top of the collection box uncovered, at the top edge of the screen.)
Some hints: 1) When you roll the box upright again, give it a good shake to the right, or roll it part way to the left and back upright, to bring the litter back into the potty chamber. 2) If your floor space is limited, scoot the box leftward as you roll it to the right. As for the litter, there is no magic height the litter has to be in the potty chamber; I don't know how some could find this a problem. 3) To fill the box, tilt it backward and pour in the litter. To empty it, tilt it forward over a trash receptacle.
As for the quality of the box, it's just fine; any better quality and it would be too heavy for me to use, being up in my years. The latches that hold the top and bottom of the box together could be stronger, but face it, how often will you need to open it up? After being in use for two months, there is nothing sticking to the box yet to clean up, and so no reason to open it--maybe this won`t be true with all litters. Based on recommendations, I have only used World`s Best clumping litter; it lasts a l-o-n-g time because not much is caught up in the clumps, and what is left is still clean, not like some I`ve used, where fouled or wet bits fall away from the clumps. The regular litter boxes get dirty above the litter line, but that hasn't happened yet with the Omega boxes--must have something to do with the shape...
If the latches don't latch smoothly, don't put undue pressure on them, just check that they are lined up straight and the box rims are tightly together, and look to see if there is a little tag of plastic keeping the latches from moving well, and take it off with a paring knife or pocket knife.
I got the bigger size from PetSmart for my larger cat. I left the old litter box there until he got used to the new one, but he never again set foot in the old box! I got a regular size box, from PetCo, for my smaller, blind kitty so she could have it in her favorite area, but my big cat uses that regular-size one just as often as he uses the bigger one!
I LOVE it!
I'm very pleased! February 1, 2006 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
I had to say how much I really enjoy this item. I won't go into detail as to how it works because several people have done that already. I was really impressed at the imagination of whoever invented this product. It really is great. I have two Sphynx cats that will do their business wherever I spread cat litter so for them to try it out only took seconds after setting it up. In fact, my girl Isis practically shoved my hands out of the way as she darted for the opening to sniff and explore. In about a minute she made her deposit. By looking at it in the store I couldn't understand how it worked. Because I purchased a display model already assembled and it had one decal on the top with directions saying "tilt to side slowly, remove drawer and empty waste." So like a kid with a toy I had to do this while watching what happened inside. I'm on my hands and knees of course. Oh the joys of an adult single male's life in his 30's. So after I saw how it worked I was floored. Then to simply pull the drawer out and dump the contents out was a dream. Way too easy I thought. I have to disagree with the person's recommendation for using the Clever Cat. Simply because with that item you still have to dig in there and scoop. I don't want to use cat liners as I try to be ecologically sensitive to how much plastic we needlessly use and take for granted. I use SWHEAT SCOOP because it is biodegradeable. I just keep filling the Omega with freshlitter as I toss away clumps. I've only had it about a week but I don't mind taking it apart once a month to clean with soap and water. Because thus far I've just kept filling it with fresh litter and there is no problem. Sometimes clumps stick to the bottom or sides. I tap the plastic and they usually fall off and roll into the drawer for expedient, easy release. I would ask the makers for one improvement to this great product. When the litter is in place and all is ready to go the space for a cat to do their business is only about 6 inches or so wide by a depth of about 12 inches. That's not a lot of square inch space for felines to do their business. I think everything is great but I recommend making this surface area larger because one day one of my cats defecated in front of the box because it needed changing. I roll it and clean it 4 or more times a day so it's not like I'm lazy. And I do have the larger size. Thanks.
Makes changing kitty's bathroom much easier!! May 6, 2006 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I have been wanting to buy a Littermaid for years but never could justify spending $150+++ dollars on a litter box... I had read all of the reviews and it seemed that a lot of people had problems with them so I decided to wait... Recently I started looking into getting one again, this time I was going to get the LM950 Mega... The reviews still made me nervous and I came across the Omega Paw Litter Box... I read all of these reviews and decided that, it being about $40 with shipping, it would be worth trying...
We received it yesterday (very fast shipping, I only ordered it on May 2, it took 3 days to get here)... I assembled it right away (I ordered the bright pink one) and just beamed at how cool it looked... I took it into the kitty's room and switched it with the old one... My little mini kitty went in it right away and all night my cats (I have 3) were thoroughly inspecting it...
I waited until morning to roll it... With the way the cats were staring it down all night, I didn't want to freak them out, plus they were in and out all night, trying to figure out what it was supposed to do... Right when I rolled it, I was amazed by how it worked!! I pulled the little container out and VIOLA! There was all the clumped litter! No mess, no smell, no litter everywhere... It is great!
It is a large box (I got the large size), perfect for the 3 kittys... I love the price, I love the fact that I don't have to plug it in or put batteries in it (those are a little expensive, ya know) and I LOVE that I have no rake to clean!!
The only thing I think it needs it a HANDLE on the top... It would make carrying it a little easier... Right away, I called my friend who has 2 cats and told her she HAS to get one of these, it makes cleaning the litter box so EASY! I highly recommend this to anyone who has a cat!!
A $40 Bargain June 3, 2005 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
This litter box makes scooping litter much easier. It's $40, so of course it has plastic pieces. The design is simple and efficient. By rolling the litter box over, the clean litter drops through a grate into one area, while the clumps (That you won't have scoop anymore) fall into the pullout "trough."
If you want something a little fancier, then take the next step up which is probably a litter-maid that's $100+. (A lot of reviews here on Amazon and elsewhere (http://www.litterbox-central.com/)steered me away from that option)The Pimp-my-litterbox that everyone seems to rave about is called the Litter-Robot. (http://www.litter-robot.com/) It weighs in at $300+.
Simple. Plastic. $40.
I like mine.
You have to see it, to believe it January 25, 2006 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Even though I had read all of the great reviews, I was fairly sceptical about purchasing this box.
I opened the box and had it assembled in five minutes. I showed to new box to my 2 male tabbys. Since they have never had an enclosed litter box before, they were a bit hesitant. But a few hours later, I checked on the box and to my delite, one of the boys had tried it out. I really felt silly but I could not wait to try it out.
So, I tipped the box all the way over, the clumps of litter fell to the grill in middle then right into the scooper. I was amazed!
Now my boys use it regularly and do not have an issue about being enclosed. Also, my cats are both 14lbs and one is quite tall. He has no problem fitting inside this larger unit. If anyone is not very sure about purchasing this box, go for it! I recommend it highly!
I am going to purchase the smaller unit for my 8 pound girl cat. And I a looking forward to never having to dig my way through the litter box again.
