Hardy leash August 31, 2005 Ingrid (Canada) 20 out of 21 found this review helpful
I've only had 2 retractables so far, but this one outlasted the other by a LARGE margin. I got this flexi when Jake was a pup, and 7 years later, it's been chewed on, spit on, dropped, dragged on concrete, dragged through mud, dirt, sand, water, snow, etc. It's even been caught in my hair every now and then. I got a different retractable last year, and it promptly broke on the same day I got it. Even before it broke, it was having problems retracting the leash-string (so I'm standing next to a busy street, 20' of leash laying in the grass, Jake standing next to me, and I'm trying desperately to get the darn thing to work before the next car goes roaring by). That leash was thrown out, and the old black flexi was given kisses and apologies for being undervalued.
The only problem it has right now is that the button needs a little more force from the thumb every now and then, and that's only because Jake chewed it out of shape a long time ago. Most of the time it works great, needs no pressure at all, but once in a while it will stick and you'll need to repeatedly press it in to "work out the kinks" and I've only had to do it less than once a year. But other than that, I never have to worry about holding a broken flexi while Jake is running like the wind after a truck. It's actually kept me out of such pickles and it's suffered a lot of abuse. More than once, it's had to withstand the pressure of a 50-60 pound dog lunging at top speed, full strength, at the end of the leash (or whenever I've pressed the button). Sometimes I see the crack on the plastic body widening a little bit under the strain, but I'm still very comfortable knowing it won't break. It's one hardy thing. Too bad retractables just don't get made the same way anymore.
nice for little dogs February 8, 2008 L. Kamnik (phila, pa) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
just the perfect size for small breed dogs. the extra safety gizmo is unnecessary since these little guys aren't strong enough to break the cable. if you use it on a larger dog (lab or shepard) you will definetly need the safety thingie. also, the little toggle attachment keeps the leash part from becomming too twisted.
Flexible length Leash January 9, 2007 David L. Johnson (Omaha, NE) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
This leash if you want one that allows extra length for your doggy to move about these are the finest. I did way to much research but am very pleased with the product.
BEST GERMAN DESIGN-DONT BUY THE CHINEASE CRAP January 15, 2006 Shuterbug (MARS) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have been buying this brand for years - this is the best quality out there - the leash line they use is always very light, but durable, abrasion resistant & strong. I have a small pomm & like to let him run at night - but wanted a small light weight leash line. The also make a very heavy leash strap version for large dogs - The last one I had lasted 10-15 years until I backed over it .. spend the extra few bucks for quality - you will love this if you use it daily .
Takes a beating... June 30, 2009 Patrick E. (NH US) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
We've had this leash for several years now with a large (100lbs+) dog. When he gets going, he gets going!
The leash has been dropped, thrown, dragged, beaten, bitten, played with, jerked on really hard (like I said, when he gets going...), and it still works like new. It is built like a tank, with really thick, strong plastic; the housing does not flex or creak in the least, and shows no cracks or other serious wear. The tape is very thick, strong nylon, and also shows no signs of wear. The internal mechanics still sound smooth, and the brake still works fine.
German engineering - it works. Yes, this leash costs more than the "made in China" imitations, but it will last you many years, and it's built far stronger; go to the pet store and compare. I'm pretty sure our dog and kids would have obliterated one of the flimsy knock-offs a long time ago. Go with the Flexi; you won't regret it.
