The Extra Wide allows children and pets to be confined to an area where mom or dad will have total supervision. It extends up to an amazing 8.5 feet (103 in.) and stands at 27 inches high. However, unlike other North States gates it does not work with small areas at all. The smallest opening it can work with is 5 feet (57 in.). It is great for blocking off a porch or other wide areas. The gate can be removed with ease from its hardware mount when not in place. The North States Extra Wide Swing Gate can swing out of the way with ease when not locked in place. When it comes to using this for your children you'd have to first know what your needs are. I can't imagine it stopping any determined child without some reinforcing; it would be more like a psychological barrier. But depending on their temperament and age it may be good to deter them from getting to things they shouldn't have.
I ordered this to use for my puppy. In my case I don't have the problem of her pushing on it so I can't say how long it would last through that. For this price I was quite happy with the quality and it was amazingly simply to install.

This is the perfect baby gate for an extra wide space. We had been looking for a gate to seperate our kitchen from our living room and every gate we looked into was just not wide enough.This gate is perfect...it actually can open up to an even larger space and it's great how it swings open once unlatched, so you don't always have to step over it. It is sturdy enough to take the abuse of a wild toddler as well!!!

NorthState's extra wide gate. I am a professional child proofer. This is the only gate I use when closing off wide openings. It is inexpensive. Easy to install. You can remove it from time to time. It is not intrusive.

Purchased this gate to keep my two dogs out of the living room. This gate was easy to install and isn't flimsy at all. The eye screws that come with it are very heavy. In fact, we purchased smaller screws so that they wouldn't dig so deep into our wood trim. Even with the smaller screws, there's no wobble to this gate. It's definitely a good solution when you want to block off a 4'-7' opening. The gate comes unfinished so we'll be able to stain the gate to match the room decor.
